The Adobe vs Apple Saga

If you read blogs focused on technology then you would be aware that Apple and Adobe have been having some issues with one another. It all started with the iPhone and then the wound got re-opened with the iPad. Apple has not allowed Flash to be functional on their devices.

There are multiple reasons:

  • It decreases the battery life of Apple products.
  • It adds another layer between the device and the operating software which can lead to hacking.
  • The Apple products (iPhone, iPod and iPad) are used via a touch screen and fingers and not a mouse as in the case of a regular PC.

Potentially most Flash websites would be have to rewritten in order to function with these touch based devices.

Apple have decided rather to “adopt HTML5, CSS and JavaScript – all open standards. Apple’s mobile devices all ship with high performance, low power implementations of these open standards. HTML5, the new web standard that has been adopted by Apple, Google and many others”.

Adobe however has made it known that in the second half of this year, Flash will be available on Android, Palm webOS and BlackBerry devices. Currently this is in private beta testing and will then proceed to public testing at a later stage, prior to the launch of Flash on these devices. I have a suspicion that this is will probably feature on the rumored “Google Tablet”. So who is the biggest loser in all of this?  The consumer, as you will have to decide between the two companies. This whole situation highlights the power that Apple has and it can make or break any of its current partners.

No Flash On Apple Products
