0

Samsung is preparing to unveil its next big smartphone successor for 2020, and ahead of the highly-anticipated reveal, we’ve rounded up the most credible rumours, details, and information you need to know about the Galaxy S20.

Design

The next Galaxy device is said to be called the Galaxy S20 (as opposed to the sequentially-named Galaxy S11, as expected). According to credible smartphone news source OnLeaks, the overall design of the phone won’t change too much, but will feature a notable change on the camera layout, featuring a more symmetrical orientation than in early prototypes. As for screen-size, the S20 is said to house a 6.2-inch display, with the S20+ and S20 Ultra including 6.7 and 6.9-inch screens respectively.

Features & Specs

Inside the S20 is rumoured to be the Snapdragon 865 chipset, along with notably larger batteries (4,000 mAh on the S20, 4,500 mAh on the S20+, and 5,000 mAh on the S20 Ultra).

RAM options will include a 12GB on the S20 and a 16GB variant on the S20 Ultra.

As for the camera, Samsung is said to be including a 108-megapixel camera on the Ultra model, with a 48-megapixel 10x optical zoom lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens for group and landscape shots to go along with it. The S20 and S20+ will have 12-megapixel cameras

The S20 models will also feature a greater focus on biometrics, with a supersized Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor, supporting two fingerprints at the same time which will deliver a significant increase in security. This will be used for more important functions, like the completion of financial transactions or logging into a banking app.

Release Date

Samsung has an Unpacked reveal event scheduled in for 11 February and will showcase the new device there. The S20 models will go on sale shortly after the event.

Price

The Galaxy S20 series is likely to follow a similar pricing pattern as last year’s S10 range, which means that the Galaxy S20 Ultra is expected to cost over $1,000 (around R14,500), with the standard S20 likely to be priced at around $900 (around R13,000).
