I have had the pleasure of using a Motorola RAZR test unit for the last 10 days. I don’t think anyone is really a true cellphone user until you have owned and used a Motorola cellphone. Be honest, you have owned a Motorola device… Motorola is a company with a background in communications – whether it be 2 way radios, satellite telephones or just plain cellphones.
The Motorola RAZR was the first Android based cellphone that I have used. After using the Motorola XOOM tablet, I had high expectations. Android has given Google a product that ensures Google users can access their services (Gmail,...

Google got some very good news last week. According to various media reports, the US Justice department & European Commission have concluded their Motorola acquisition investigation. I guess the question is; why have things gone so smoothly? Fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms of licensing seems to have clinched it for Google. I suspect that lobbyists were used by Google to communicate these FRAND terms to the legislative powers.
When the acquisition was initially made public I thought that there might be some opposition to it. Why? Well, the other cellphone manufacturers are...

Yesterday was a historic day for Google as they announced the acquisition of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion. The total cost of the purchase is the biggest ever made by Google and close to a third of the total cash that they have in their war chest with which to make acquisitions.
The acquisition was unexpected but according to various media reports negotiations have been going on for close to 5 weeks. Google have added 19000 people to their payroll, if the acquisition is not blocked by regulators in the US. The move was done in my opinion for one reason: patents. Google was unsuccessful in...

If you think of Motorola in a South African context I think most people would immediately think of their “Hello Moto” ringtone. Motorola at the moment is trying hard to recreate itself outside of the United States. I will concede that their latest products (the Motorola Atrix is a multipurpose smart phone in every sense) are very innovative and geek cool.
At the moment there are 2 standouts in the tablet category. The Apple iPad and iPad 2 is the dominant device due to all the classic Apple traits (intuitive design, a solid operating system and excellent apps). I believe HP has joined the group...

Motorola is a manufacturer which seems to have all but disappeared. We tend to forget that they made one of the most iconic cellphones ever called the Startac. Fast forward 14 years after the Startac launch and Motorola has contracted its product offering outside America. In America, Motorola has a very dominant position and many users but the same cannot be said for the other parts of the world.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Motorola unveiled their latest smart phone called the Atrix. This is not another smart phone and could potentially be a game changer that many other...
