When most of us think about printers, we think about an item that is stationary. You walk to the printer to collect the item that you have selected to print. If you do not own a printer, then the closest thing to a printer is a printing shop. In printing shops they are normally behind a counter bolted down by either locked wheels or bolts. The point I am trying to make is that printers in general are not mobile friendly. I have not even seen people walking around with a printer in the same sense as a notebook. It just does not look right.

It looks like HP have finally gotten some direction. When they acquired Autonomy in August last year there was a feeling from the HP leadership that the company was on the verge of entering a new path to change its core focus. I am referring to the fact that HP is a manufacturer of various computer related items and Leo Apotheker had envisioned HP becoming a software based company. To cut a very long story short that idea never got off the ground and Leo Apotheker is no longer employed by HP.
HP then got Meg Whitman, ex-eBay supremo to take over from Apotheker and she has been on the back foot from day...

In one of the biggest stories of 2011, HP decided to “retire” WebOS. It seems the lack of sales of WebOS devices was the primary reason for this. I suspect that Googorola is potentially adding to the equation as manufacturers are looking at strengthening their own offer to consumers.
The rumour mill has already starting churning possible new owners for WebOS. Apple and Google are not even added to the conversation as they already dominate in the mobile space. So who are the candidates to buy WebOS?
Facebook could be a fit. Mark Zuckerberg’s pride & joy could acquire WebOS. They have the...

Last week was a big news week for technology. The “Googorola” story may be the start of a market shift in the cell phone industry. I believe that the HP story that broke after their earnings call is of far bigger impact to the entire PC environment.
From the start, HP was purely a service orientated business. Through a range of controversies and management changes they acquired Compaq. Then, took an enormous risk and dove into a “diversifying” market which initially was not their primary focus. Remember the big technology companies are public in terms of their financial status. They are...

They say dynamite comes in small packages. We all know the damage that can be done by a piece of dynamite. Yes, it is not a pretty sight. When HP bought Palm last year it was for one major reason, the WebOS software that Palm makes for mobile devices. So it is not surprising that they first launched a Tablet that uses the software. I think the TouchPad got a luke warm appraisal at best.
This week sees the launch of the first smart phone that features the HP WebOS (note the name change). The HP Veer is according to HP “the smallest smart phone in the world” and is a very important little device. The...
