South Africa’s largest online fashion retailer goes all out for Black Friday

0

Black Friday has firmly cemented itself in the South African retail calendar as a day to look forward to. Originally a celebrated by Americans a day after Thanksgiving, this ‘shopping festival’ has taken the
online world by storm and brought all the brick and mortars stores along with it.

Q: Just how big is it really?
A: Big. Really big.

As one of South Africa’s largest fashion retailers, Zando saw an increase of orders by the factor of 16
compared to an average day in 2017 on Black Friday, 24 November. This was a record for Zando
Black Friday sales, which tumble year on year. To provide some context on the scale, Zando claims
to have sold 80 items a minute during Black Friday, with 5 times more people visiting the website and
app combined ─ reaching over 22 million South Africans with marketing material of some form.
Logistically, an order was dispatched every 4 seconds, staggeringly. As a visual representation, if
they were to stack up all of the parcels and boxes that were sent out on that day alone, it would scale
to be 25 times higher than Table Mountain.

What can be expected this Black Friday on Zando?

Zando is going all out and offering up to 90% off on Black Friday. With over 200,000 items onsite,
including fashion, shoes, sportswear, beauty and homeware, Zando is selling everything! Look out for
deals such as sneakers and heels from R99 and major brands like adidas and Puma being
discounted at up to 60% off. With so many more great deals expected, Zando’s Head of Mobile,
Graham du Plessis, has some tips on the best strategy to avoid missing out:

“Make sure you download the app and keep your device close on-hand. We have some great deals
planned and we really enjoy mixing it up every day. Plus, we have some exciting offers that are
accessible only via the app, so, once the deal goes live, it’s almost a case of quickest finger wins!”
Graham goes on to add that “Ensuring you have a profile with Zando is key to saving time. Make sure
that all of your payment and delivery details are correctly entered and another hot tip is stay logged
in─ trust me, you’d hate to lose that awesome pair of adidas sneakers by wasting time on having to
login first.” He also suggests that getting your Wishlist primed for action by adding your favourite items
earlier on allows you to have quick access to add to cart when the sale goes live.

Last but not least, wake up early. Zando claims to have surpassed their daily average orders for the
year of 2017 by 2am on the morning of Black Friday, and by 7am they had achieved more orders than
the next highest day that year.
