Best Netflix Original Movies You Need to Watch

0

While most users dive into their Netflix for the series libraries, there are some fantastic movies to indulge in too. We’ve rounded up 5 of our favourite Netfix movies that you should consider lending your time to.

Extraction

Extraction is a John Wick-style, compact military thriller, but while it lives on the small-screen, it is another dose of high-grade blockbuster pedigree for the streaming platform, delivering one of the more interesting films in the genre that manages to pull off a perfect blend of action and heart, which many others fail to do. If you’re looking for something to get your heart-rate racing, while also tugging at those cardiovascular-strings, Extraction is a brutal, hard-hitting, and exciting blend of familiar and new talents that shouldn’t be missed.

Bright

Bright may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s hard not to be sucked in to the fantasy-meets-LA world from director David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury). Starring Will Smith and Taron Egerton, Bright is set in an alternate reality where fairies, orcs, and other mythical creatures exist in modern-day Los Angeles. It follows Smith’s character, an LAPD officer, who, along with his orc partner, has to get to the bottom of an investigation surrounding a magical wand, all while dodging corrupt cops and sinister forces.

Annihilation

A lot has been said about Annihilation; it was widely acclaimed as an excellent sci-fi thriller that combines terror and taut suspense effectively, but somehow, it seems like a ton of people still haven’t seen the eerie Netflix original. The story is clever and well-told, but one of the criticisms (which may be a positive in the eyes of some) is the interwoven symbolism scattered throughout the movie that uses the backdrop of the sci-fi story as an exploration of the complex relationship between the protagonist Lena (Natalie Portman) and her husband Kane (Oscar Isaac). Either way you want to analyse the movie – whether a creepy horror or psychosocial relationship deconstruction – Annihilation is an interesting and unique watch, whatever its faults may be.

6 Underground

6 Underground is quintessential Michael Bay action, and it’s fantastic. With all its booms and explosions, 6 Underground delivers an interesting and captivating premise, following 6 billionaires who fake their own deaths in order to form a vigilante squad to hunt down a host of notorious criminals. The film stars Ryan Reynolds in the lead, with Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, Ben Hardy, and Dave Franco alongside for the ride.

The Week Of

Planning a wedding can be stressful, and not just for the bride and groom, for their families as well! Of course, all this drama can also be comedy gold – just see Adam Sandler and Chris Rock’s The Week Of. The movie tells the story of a devoted, middle-class father (Sandler) determined to pay for his daughter’s wedding despite the prodding of the wealthier father of the groom (Rock). A series of calamities forces the dads (and their families) to come together and endure the longest week of their lives.
