There’s no doubt that April delivered some spectacular films, including the record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War; but May is here, and with it comes a number of exciting movies to keep your eyes out for!

Unsane

Release date: 4 May 2018

With the likes of Get Out, It, and A Quiet Place resurrecting the horror genre, Unsane is the next fright-fest looking to pleasantly-surprise fans this month. Directed by Stephen Soderburgh (Ocean’s ElevenMagic Mike), Unsane follows Claire Foy as Sawyer Valentini, who has just started a new job in a new city to escape a stalker. After finding herself in a psychiatric institution, she suspects one of the orderlies may in fact be her stalker. Need something to quicken your pulse and potentially make you never accept a friend request from anyone you don’t know again? This will do the trick.

A Wrinkle in Time

Release date: 4 May 2018

The live-action adaptation of the 1962’s novel A Wrinkle in Time sees Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, and Zach Galifianakis come together to tell a story about a precociously intelligent young girl whose father has gone missing since he discovered a new planet. With the help of a few quirky sidekicks, her and her little brother take a dangerous journey to this new planet in the hopes of finding and rescuing her father. Anyone looking for a family-friendly outing should look no further

Beirut

Release date: 11 May 2018

If you’re looking for intrigue and espionage this month, Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame will deliver exactly that in Beirut – a period drama set in 1982, which follows a hostage negotiator who finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game between the CIA and dangerous kidnappers. The film also stars Gone Girl‘s Rosamund Pike.

Deadpool 2

Release date: 18 May 2018

Superhero shenanigans return this month with Deadpool’s second silver-screen outing, but this time around, he’s putting his own band of misfits together to help him, while trying to escape X-Men stalwart Cable (Josh Brolin). A lot of the success of the original might have been Ryan Reynold’s charm and cheek he brought to the character, but the increased scale of the sequel should mean Deadpool enjoys another blockbuster success.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Release date: 25 May 2018

If Rogue One was anything to go by, there should be a lot of hope with Solo, the second of many-to-come Star Wars spin-off movies. As the name would suggest, the film follows a young Han Solo and his early adventures which led him to become the best smuggler in the galaxy. Other fan favourites like Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian also make appearances, but the story firmly focuses on the titular hero.
