5 Games Under R300 You Need to Play

0

The sad truth is R300 doesn’t get you very far in 2018. What it will get you, though, is a new game thanks to some great deals available from local retails and online stores. We’ve highlighted 5 games that won’t break the bank and are worth checking out if you’re yet to play them.

Dishonored 2 (PS4) – R236

The first Dishonored opened the world of supernatural assassinations to gamers and the sequel takes the Dishonored world to new heights. Players are able to choose between playing as Corvo or his daughter Emily in this slick-looking follow-up which takes place in the coastal city of Karnaca rather than the grimy streets of Dunwall. Players can also use a variety of new supernatural powers to hunt down their targets, but it’s also said that the game can be finished without taking a life.

Alien Isolation (PS4) – R100

Alien: Isolation does a really good job to recreate the tension and horror aspects of the Alien franchise, which is something that has often been sidelined in exchange for action in other games based on the franchise. The interesting premise, incredible visuals and unique AI features make the game a must-play for horror fans looking for something different.

Quantum Break (Xbox One) – R289

Part video game, part TV show, Quantum Break puts the old time-travel hypothesis to the test: can you change the past? Remedy’s action game makes time not only a tool, but a weapon for the in-over-his-head protagonist Jack Joyce, and the result is something quite unique and spectacular. It’s not the longest game in the world, but a great addition to any third-person shooter fan looking for something with a unique hook.

Murdered: Soul Suspect (Xbox One) – R223

Murdered: Soul Suspect takes the ‘who’s killed me and why?’ set-up of the B-movie classic DOA one step further, by making its hero, Ronan O’Connor, a ghost out to track down his killer, with the killer in question of the serial variety. Thrown out of a window and then shot for good measure, Ronan’s left in a kind of ghostly limbo, able to wander through walls and furniture or temporarily possess the living, read their minds and sometimes influence (though not control) their behaviour. It’s an interesting game that has some unique gameplay ideas for those looking for something different.

The Evil Within (PS4) – R278

Arguably the scariest game available, The Evil Within features Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami as the game’s director, with a story that follows veteran police detective Sebastian Castellanos as he investigates the scene of a gruesome mass murder. Of course, things aren’t as they seem, and he soon finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. The game plays out as a familiar third-person shooter in which scavenging for supplies and learning when to fight or run are key factors in surviving, much like Resident Evil, but for a new generation.

The sequel released late last year, so best to jump into this horror-packed franchise sooner rather than later.
