Childhood nostalgia hits an all-time high this month with the release of Christopher Robin, which stars Ewan McGregor and tells the story of Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, and the rest of the gang, as they attempt to remind Christopher about his childhood joy and happiness in life. There is some spectacular CGI in the film, and McGregor always delivers on his performances, so this should do the beloved source material justice.
Release date: 9 August 2018
If you needed a little reminder as to why sharks are so terrifying, The Meg will deliver a healthy dose of that. It follows a pretty typical plot – scientists in an underwater research facility mess with nature, nature decides to get even, and mess with them. The principal antagonist here is the affectionately named ‘Meg’, short for Megalodon – the prehistoric super-shark that will make a Great White wet his shorts. Throw in some self-aware comedy and badassery that Jason Statham is well-known for, and you’ll have a frighteningly funny underwater escapade where more than a few people get chomped.
The Equalizer 2
Release date: 24 August 2018
While things were ‘equalised’ in the first film, Denzel Washington is back to serve another dose of high-octane revenge action in The Equalizer 2. The sequel once again stars Washington, who plays Robert McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. He was forced to come out of retirement to deliver some vengeance against those who brutalise the helpless, and this time around, he’s seeking justice for someone he loved – so you know he’s not happy.
