Xiaomi Announces The Mi 6

0

In 2016, Xiaomi stunned the world with the nearly bezel-less MiMix, so when the company announced that the Mi 6 would be unveiled, expectations were high.

The company has finally taken the wraps off the mi 6 and while it doesn’t have the MiMix’s same awe inspiring design, it certainly is a looker.

The front of the handset is dominated by a 5.15-inch 1080 HD display, while the back of the handset brings the return of the curved 2.5D glass that was used on the Mi 5. The most notable feature on the rear of the handset is the 12MP dual-camera setup. Like Apple, Xiaomi has decided to pair a wide-angle lens with a telephoto lens for this 12-megapixel camera setup. One lens has an f/1.8 aperture with a 1.25um sensor, while the second lens has an f/2.6 aperture with a 1um sensor. The Mi 6’s camera is flush with the phone’s body and its wide-angle lens has 4 axis stabilisation.

One thing that is missing from the phones is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is why you’ll fins a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter included in the box.

Under the hood, the Mi 6 is packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset as well as 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, a base storage of 64GB instead of just 32GB, a  3,350mAh battery and an improved under-glass fingerprint reader. The Mi 6 runs MIUI 8 which appears to based on Android 7.1.1.

Xiaomi has also added internal seals to the phone, making it splashproof, but the company refrains from using the word “waterproof”.

At this stage, it’s not known whether or not the Mi 6 will be heading to South Africa nor what the local pricing might be.
