5 top tips to save your cellphone’s battery life

0

Cellphone technology is advancing at a blistering pace; in every generation we find amazing new apps, more powerful processors and stylish designs, but there is one essential aspect that no manufacturer seems to be able to crack – the longevity of the battery!

So, while we live in hope that this problem will eventually be solved, here are 5 top tips to help you conserve your cellphone‘s “juice”.

  1. Shut down apps that are running in the background

You may not see them, but they’re there, chewing up battery life; it’s an unfortunate consequence of multitasking.

How to shut them down:

Android: Simply press the multitasking key – usually left or right of the home button, depending on the brand of smartphone – and swipe them away.

iOS: All you have to do is give the home button a double tap; you’ll see the active windows appear and then swipe upwards to shut them down.

  1. Dim your screen brightness

We know you love to ramp up the display brightness to get the most out of the high-quality resolution, but this really drains the battery life. The easiest way to dim it down is to enable the auto-brightness setting – this is available on the majority of devices; you can also do this manually if you aren’t happy with the auto mode.

  1. Limit notifications

Use ad-free apps! Not only are ads extremely irritating, they’re eating your battery’s power. There are ad-free versions of apps available, you just need to look for them – don’t install the first one that comes up in the search results; remember, patience is a virtue!

  1. Turn off Bluetooth

Yes, we know that this seems self-explanatory, but take a second and check your phone to see if it’s on…was it? It’s easy to forget because we use it to connect to so many wireless devices such as activity trackers, wireless speakers and headphones. The problem is that even if it’s paired, it’s still searching for other signals; so, when it’s not needed, hit the kill switch.

  1. Don’t use the “vibrate” function

Setting your phone to “vibrate” mode, actually gulps more energy than if you left the ringtone on! When you’re at work, rather set it to mute and check it, periodically. If you’re waiting for an important call, keep it on your desk – the last thing that you want is your phone to die in the middle of a vital conversation.
