Huawei Reveals The Mate 9

0

Leaks are a fairly common thing these days, especially when it comes to device reveals. Something that Huawei knows full well.

In the weeks and months leading up to the official reveal of the Mate 9, the internet was awash with leaked images and specs of the company’s latest phablet.

Were the rumours and leaks correct?

Introducing the Huawei Mate 9

Here’s everything you need to know about Huawei’s Mate 9.

Two Variants

Huawei unveiled not one but two Mate 9 handsets in Munich. A regular version and a high-end “luxe” version called the “Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9”.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is a limited edition smartphone. Combining Porsche Design’s brand aesthetic with Huawei’s mobile engineering expertise.

What makes the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 different to the regular version (other than the complicated name)?

This variant of the phone has a 5.5-inch curved AMOLED display and will be available in only one colour, Graphite Black.

Cameras

The Huawei Mate 9 includes a rear-facing dual camera setup that was first introduced in the P9 range.

The new second-generation dual-camera setup now includes a 12-megapixel/F2.2 RGB sensor, a 20-megapixel/F2.2 monochrome sensor and enhanced image-fusion algorithms. These work together to help capture better photographs.

The RGB sensor captures true-to-life colours, while the monochrome sensor lets in more light and helps you capture more intricate details and depth. Well, at least that’s what Huawei says.

It also has Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) solution, the industry’s first dual-camera pixel binning technology, and hybrid zoom. The camera setup also includes a 4-1 Hybrid auto-focus feature. This consists of laser focus, phase detection focus, depth focus, and contrast focus.
