Although the release of the Galaxy Note 7 has been delayed in South Africa, it may in the end have been for the best. There have been widespread issues plaguing the Note 7, causing Samsung to take unprecedented actions.
Samsung have issued a global recall for all Galaxy Note 7s after reports of exploding batteries.
Following the reports Samsung have halted global sales of their latest handheld device, according to a South Korean news source. And the problem reported is a particularly nasty one; the batteries on a small percentage of Note 7s have been catching fire due to overheating while charging.
The issue only effects an estimated 24 handsets for every 1 million, or a total of 24 million units, but Samsung are viewing it as serious enough to issue the global recall and halt any further sales of the Note 7. Those who have already bought a Note 7 will be able to replace their current device with a new one in the coming weeks.
This may extend the Note 7 delay for South Africa, but rest assured we won’t be running the risk of having an exploding smartphone to deal with.
