Summertime, and the livin’ is easy

river_rafting_002Feel it, it is here –  the warm sun-filled days that is! And if you are anything like me, then you’ll be spending as much time as possible under the festive season sun.

Water sports are a great way of keeping fit and having loads fun! Now you might be thinking, “Water sports – isn’t that for extremists?” Well dare to think again, and have a go at a water sport of your choice. It’s bound to keep you coming back for more!

Paddle on the wild side, and enjoy a Rafting adventure on the Crocodile River, near Harties in Gauteng. Or better yet, do a water sport combo and add a 25 metre Cliff Abseil, just for the heck of it. The adventure includes a 25m cliff abseil onto the banks of the river next to the first rapid in the Phalingigwe Nature Reserve, which is only 45 minutes from Johannesburg and Pretoria. The abseil is conducted from the last and most magnificent lookout point on the Phalindigwe Nature Reserve hiking trail, providing a birds-eye view of the rapids as they snake their way through the ancient crags. But If the idea of dangling from the side of a cliff doesn’t entice you, then set sail on the Vaal River and enjoy a 3 hour group fishing charter, in style. But if you’re feeling the need for speed, I strongly recommend the Power Sail combo. Make it a group effort and you and no less than three friends can enjoy a short sail in Table Bay, followed by high-speed jet boat ride to Clifton. An Elephant Safari, in Bela Bela (Warmbaths), Limpopo Province, is also a good way to spruce up a conventional summer 34_odip. Experience a swim like no other on the back of an elephant, no less! This touch and feed elephant interaction, will undoubtedly tap into the primitive you. You will also gave the opportunity to see other animals like Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Ostrich and more! And if the world’s largest land animals is not your thing, then why not try a helicopter, horse riding, hot air balloon or quad bike safari.

7942016_origThere are a myriad of ways to enjoy watersports, and if you do consider yourself a watersport fanatic, why not invest in some equipment of your own? Jet skis, scuba gear, tubes and surfboards are just a few items which one can acquire for summer fun, and store with ease during winter. Whatever floats your boat, whether it’s a recreational watersport like underwater photography, going snorkelling or skiing barefoot on the water, all that really matters is that you have fun!
