Have you ever logged onto the internet, typed in your favourite go-to sites and there is just the one story trending on each page? Along with this story there are people commenting and mocking what has been done, worn, exposed, launched and so on. You don’t really care too much about what the story may be exactly, but you are intrigued anyway and to be honest, some of the comments and memes are really funny, so why not join in on the conversation?

This has recently happened with topics such as Miley Cyrus twerking on stage at the VMA’s, the launch of a cheaper looking, brighter coloured Apple iPhone and even the redesign of the Yahoo logo. The stories and reactions created by these events can be really hilarious at times with comments and posts from people all around the world and when you join in and people start re-tweeting, liking and sharing what you say, you feel accepted and appreciated.

And thus the vicious cycle is born; because let’s be honest, it feels better to join into a conversation than to create one most times. But why do we also relish the opportunity to ridicule others so much? Perhaps it makes us feel just that little bit better about ourselves? Maybe we need something to do other than work at our desk? Or perhaps instead of going to public be-headings or visiting the mental asylums for some Sunday fun as we did way back when, we like to watch these “undoings” safe behind our PC screens, Apple iPads or Tablets.

Therefore anyone or anything that is in the public eye are most likely watching their every step that much more as social media grows stronger user by user. It must certainly be keeping publicists on their nimble toes. But oh… what a guilty pleasure it is to watch those Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball spin-offs on Vine.
