Nokia Lumia 920 Review

0

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of testing the Nokia Lumia 920. Let me be clear from the start and say that this is the best Nokia phone I have had to test. There is no comparison and Nokia has not made a smartphone like it.

First Impressions is that the Lumia 920 has a beautiful display. The 4.5” screen takes a few minutes to get used to but after an hour you become used to being able to browse content on the larger than average display.  The Interface and Windows 8 software have an incredible ability to make you want to open apps, browse content on the web and most of all makes it fun to browse content. The apps contain layouts that encourage you to swipe and page through content. Really, it is a game changer that Nokia needs to market better.

The camera is an unsung hero. Taking beautiful photos is very easy and being able to browse them on the 4.5” display makes it easy to show friends and family. The Lumia 920 is a giant leap forward for Nokia and Windows 8 as the operating system ensures a pleasurable experience when using the device.

The app store is very decently stocked and contains a lot of apps specifically designed for the Nokia Lumia devices. This small change is in my mind another unique selling point for Nokia to market better. Being different in comparison to iOS, Android and now BlackBerry 10 should be given a lot more airtime.

One other brilliant feature is the battery life of the Lumia 920. When browsing and using the phone via Wireless I could get 3 whole days of usage. I thought initially that the bigger screen would adversely effect battery life but Nokia has ensured that it has little effect.

Nokia with Elop leading it has been getting a lot of bad press. The Lumia 920 and 620 is the best medicine for all the naysayers. If Nokia continues to deliver devices like the Lumia 920 then they will survive. The Lumia 920 has shown me that a company under pressure can deliver a great device that users love. The only potential deal breaker is the app store and the lack of a variety of apps in comparison to the Google Play & App store. If you are willing to be different then the Nokia Lumia 920 is a great device.

Well done Nokia!
