Rock Climbing In South Africa

0

If you are an adrenaline junkie, then rock climbing might just be something of interest. It is the ultimate outdoor challenge as you pit your climbing skills against a mountain or artificial climbing wall, with or without any supporting wires.

It boils down to strength and agility in your arms, fingers and upper body. You will constantly add chalk onto your hands to ensure a proper grip . A proper chalk bag which fits around your hips will ensure that you can regularly put your hands into the chalk bag.
A tight fitting harness is also required to ensure that you can use ropes for your safety on a mountain or indoor climbing facility. You will also require a proper pair of climbing shoes that will provide traction on a very small contact area.

Where can you go rock climbing?
In Mpumalanga at the Waterval Boven Mountain which is arguably South Africa’s best spot. The Drakensberge is another spot. In the Western Cape you can climb up scenic Table Mountain or take a two and a half hour drive to the Cederberg. Rock climbing opportunities in the Eastern Cape include Lady’s Slipper, Van Stadens Gorge, The Grips, The Gorges and Windmill Hole.
