Is colour the new black?

When I think of technology and gadgets, metal and composite materials come to mind. It is based on observation on how the items look and feel in general. In my opinion, some products are bland and boring which contributes to poor sales numbers. Just look at the popularity of the white iPhone and other cellphones such as the BlackBerry Torch. With the above in mind, I have started observing a trend that is beginning to emerge. The best example of this trend is seen with Headphones. The look that we are all familiar with: Now, various manufacturers have started to create multi coloured headphones as a...

HP moving in the right direction

It looks like HP have finally gotten some direction. When they acquired Autonomy in August last year there was a feeling from the HP leadership that the company was on the verge of entering a new path to change its core focus. I am referring to the fact that HP is a manufacturer of various computer related items and Leo Apotheker had envisioned HP becoming a software based company. To cut a very long story short that idea never got off the ground and Leo Apotheker is no longer employed by HP. HP then got Meg Whitman, ex-eBay supremo to take over from Apotheker and she has been on the back foot from day...

Britannica ends its 244 year print history

Encyclopedia Britannica, one of the most used encyclopedia’s worldwide, announced last week that it will no longer be printed. It is a historical moment as the encyclopedia was printed for 244 years and became a part of global education. I can remember spending hours in the local library using Britannica encyclopedia’s to aid with research for projects and assignments. The evolution of my own research journey was that after the library, we got a computer at home and with it came Encarta. At the time it was unbelievable that a whole encyclopedia could be placed on a CD.  Thus when looking for...

A few more highlights from Mobile World Congress

Today is the last day of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and after my earlier post a few more products have been made public that caught my attention. I have deliberately not mentioned all of the launches done in Barcelona as there have been plenty. The first product that I want to mention is the Samsung Galaxy beam.  I would not be surprised if some inspiration was taken by the 3M pocket projector as the size of the products are very similar.  Note that I am not implying that this might become a patent issue for Samsung. It makes a lot of sense to have such a product available as we are getting...

Belkin Notebook Stand Review

If you use a notebook daily, the day it does not work is one that you fear.  I recently cracked the screen of my trusty Dell notebook and only then did I realize how much I neglect the device. This is not one of those support meeting kind of posts where I try to save a notebook who chronically shows the Microsoft blue screen of death but rather a plea. Your workhorse aids in browsing the Internet, doing email and posting content on social networks. However I wonder, have you considered extending the life span of your notebook? The most obvious solution is to do regular checks and maintenance on your...
