Toys That Educate

Education comes in many forms (books, games and even toys) that ensure something goes to memory that will be recalled over time. Whether it is how to use money (Monopoly does a great job on educating the players on property ownership) or learning a new skill (knitting, gardening) the opportunities are available for all to learn something. Toys do some early educating when mom and dad have a task to do.  I am not for one moment suggesting that toys and other media should replace parents. On the contrary toys can supplement the parental education process. Imaginative play can develop creativity as the...

Comfortable Shoes

Have you thought about your feet and the punishment that they experience daily? Think about it for a minute and then have a look at your shoes. Are your shoes comfortable and not hurting your feet? A good pair of shoes will not produce blisters. I believe strongly that we do not spend enough time on selecting the proper pair of shoes. Can you not relate to walking into the shop and then picking the first pair that suits your needs and budget? Unfortunately we all do that and then deal with the consequences. So how do you pick the right pair of shoes? Firstly, you need to set the amount of money you...

Celebrate Father’s Day

Sunday is Father’s day in South Africa. We celebrate the impact that fathers have had in society and fatherhood. Fathers in my opinion seem to be less celebrated than mothers but both play an important role in our community. It is a “thank you” for all the lifts he has given you, fixed your bicycle or watching you play sport. So what can you get as a present for your father? A GPS would be a great idea as it can help him save money by driving the shortest distance between 2 places. He also will never be lost as he can then search on his GPS for directions and information. If...

Blow Your Vuvuzela Or Sockzela

Where did you find yourself on Wednesday at noon? I would be surprised if you did not hear vuvuzelas and saw many people wearing soccer jerseys showing their support for South Africa.  South Africans do things differently; we call traffic lights robots and eat dried meat. It is these things that make us unique and South African I believe. We are patriotic and love our country. The vuvuzela is not unique as South American soccer fans have something similar called a Cometa in Brazil. It is a blow horn made of plastic that is powered by the breath of its owner.  If you have been unlucky and someone...

Be Safe Digitally With Anti Virus Software

What is in a box sometimes or on a server that needs to be downloaded that can potentially save your digital assets? An Anti-virus program and some people don’t own a legal copy nor feel the need to own a copy. Risky and naïve, is my thoughts on non-ownership. My own experiences are that it can haunt you when the needed safety net which an anti-virus provides is found lacking. When you don’t have an anti-virus installed and updated on your home PC or notebook, re-installation of software becomes a hobby and data loss is a time consuming process. The question will be constantly asked,...
