October brings with it some new gaming releases for fans of the Ghost Recon and Call of Duty franchises, along with a returning Playstation classic that has seen a revival from the dead!

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Release date: 4 October 2019 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, following on from 2017’s brilliant yet under-appreciated Wildlands, throws the usually well-prepped Ghosts tactical team onto a tropical island known as Auroa – where a drone tech company known as Skell Technology has been taken over by a former Ghost gone rogue. Outgunned and outnumbered, players have to adapt to being the underdogs this time around, and we got some hands-on time with the game’s beta to find out exactly why Auroa isn’t going to be as hospitable as it looks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Release date: 25 October 2019 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)

Call of Duty‘s return to a modern warfare setting is somewhat of a homecoming for a franchise which has found itself struggling with a bit of an identity crisis in recent years. While last year’s Black Ops 4 delivered a great multiplayer experience, focusing on twitch reactions and tons of content, Modern Warfare shifts the focus back to the series’ trademark features: strong maps, solid gunplay, and a focus on strategy, with less bells and whistles and more practical gameplay improvements that’ll please longtime fans the most. There is also a full single-player campaign once again, giving fans who love the solo play in CoD games another high-octane romp full of explosions and big set-pieces.

MediEvil

Release date: 25 October 2019 (PS4)

Playstation has had some great success with its recent remakes, with the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon trilogies doing particularly well. Another smaller but beloved PS1 classic is getting the same remake treatment, as MediEvil makes its resurgence on the PS4 this month. Like the Crash and Spyro remakes, the game is predominantly the same, but the game has been essentially rebuilt from the ground up, with vastly enhanced visuals, better controls, and revamped combat mechanics, allowing it to fit in with the modern gaming landscape.
