Acting Awards Season Is Here Once More

0

Is Hollywood moving into award season already? Has it really almost been a year since Colin Firth and Natalie Portman bulldozed the award circuit?  Yes indeed, the time for glitz, glamour and gold statuettes are upon us.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards took place last month and Glee actress, Jane Lynch brought down the house with her spectacular act which opened the show. Popular TV series Modern Family walked away with almost every award for which they were nominated.  Nerds across the globe also had reason to celebrate as Jim Parsons took home the award for Lead Actor in a comedy series for his portrayal as super nerd Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

The other mainstream acting award ceremonies, such as The Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, are usually a good indication of who the front-runners for the Academy Awards are.

Whether or not it will be a tight race for the contenders, yet to be announced, is still to be determined. However, it seems the Hollywood press have made some early predictions about films, directors and actors who are in the running this year. ‘The Tree Of Life’, directed by Terence Malick and starring Brad Pitt as well as Sean Penn, ‘War Horse’, directed by Steven Spielberg and award circuit darling Meryl Streep are all seen as favourites. Streep, who has 16 Oscar nominations and 2 wins under her belt, might have the chance to clinch that 3rd win for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady’.

The Golden Globes, SAG and Oscars can all be seen on MNET – check the TV guide for specific dates. For those who are more into the outfits the actors wear than the actual prize ceremony, there is always E! News which will keep you up to date with all the fashion hits and faux pas straight from the red carpet with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic.

If you don’t have MNET or DSTV, perhaps now is the time to invest so you too can watch these popular shows from the comfort of your living room. Find great deals on PriceCheck so you don’t have to dig deep into your pockets.
